the characters of this city, Sydney, are diverse and conflicted. That is not only because of the city's multicultural background, but also influenced by the young history of the nation.
on our site, north bondi, there still can find this conflicted features. because this region is a sight seeing place, which attracted the different kinds of tourists from all over the world. the economical influence that leads by the tourists also provides more possibilities for this site.and also, it is a typical sydney town style, which is relatively quiet and has lots of senior citizen.
in the site visiting, beyond my expectation, the north bondi is not a very "upper class" region at all, it is a kind of normal sydney residential area.
Apartment design
like kengo kuma's words, i believe that a good design is not only created by architects, but also by investors and occupants. In our design, I wanna consider more about our occupants, not only on those function requirements but also on the characters of the residents and the interaction might occur. moreover, how to attract a "right" occupant by the design is also the question that awaits for answer.
so the apartment design became quite interesting because of the multiple users that we are dealing with. the idea comes in mind is the opposition of the Corbusier's contemporary city, which provide a normal common unit for every one and release the land for public space. We might provide a building that fused several different design for diverse people. It might use as much land space as possible to achieve that because of the different requirements. Although this idea might even against the concept of "apartment", it fits the charater of the north bondi and even interesting by itself. furthers, the reaction of different people leaving in one building also pretty meaningful. The idea itself might sounds like a architectural Fascist, but the lack of this kind of thinking makes it promotes the diversity of architecture.
the challenges of the design may be that how to use the site features to create several reasonable apartment for different occupants and finally put them together.
